Program Details

Our wild landscapes nurture and encourage the healthy development of our children. Drawing on inspiration from Montessori & Waldorf Schools, the K-2 class deepens, in all aspects, direct experiences with the Earth and with each other, putting the developmental needs of the child in the forefront. With a strong daily rhythm, our classes are infused with songs, games, and stories. This creative work develops, among a wide array of skills and qualities, a keen memory, a rich vocabulary, the firm foundation for future literacy, and a strong sense of rhythm. Our imagination acts as a bond between ourselves and nature, helping us to develop reverence, understanding, and compassion.  Daily, the land offers a host of new adventures to spark the natural curiosity and imagination of each child. We balance free exploration with structured learning, which is a harmonious blend of academic content and socio-emotional learning. Sandwiching our moments of focused time between exploration and wild play gives students the opportunity to move through their natural cycle of learning.

Here is what a day of Wildschooling might look like:

  • Morning circle: check-ins, songs, stories, academic mini-lessons, decision making about the day’s activities

  • Snack

  • Unstructured exploration: time for students to immerse in play and exploring

  • Activity time: Independent work and teacher time in literacy, math and writing.

  • Lunch/Free time

  • Activity time/Focused Exploration: Guided exploration in art & craft, science or ecology

  • Closing circle:  Storytelling, songs, sharing gratitudes of the day and goodbyes

Academics

  • Academics are built around the framework of the Common Core Standards & Colorado Academic Standards for your child’s grade level (which may or may not correspond with their age or vary with subjects). Relationship-based education is personalized education—our teachers deeply know each child as a unique individual with differing needs and learning styles.
